When asking the hostel owner where to go in Marrakech for a day, he immediately recommended the Jardins de Majorelle. Once owned by Yves Saint Laurent, the gardens are a green and sanctuary within the bustling city. Just a short bus ride away from the main square, the gardens are definitely worth visiting if you want a dose of nature.
You enter into a small courtyard with a tiled fountain, and then walk further into an urban oasis.
Pathways lead you around to discover a huge set of gardens containing every kind of tree, cactus, vine, and shade of green you could imagine. Waterfalls, rivers, and ponds appear out of nowhere.
In much of the gardens, only touches of the bright blue sky peek through the tall trees.
All of the structures and house (that used to be Yves Saint Laurent's, but now houses a Berber History Museum) are painted in the deepest cobalt and vines and flowers hang from every inch.
After exploring all the pathways we could find (some were secret!) we stopped at the Cafe Bousafsaf for a little treat to cool off.
After sitting and chatting for a while in the cafe, we hopped in a grande taxi and headed to the train station. We even tried the Moroccan McDonald's while waiting for the train- the perfect ending to my Moroccan adventure ;)
